Two killed after train smashes into car in Mallala, north of Adelaide

Two people have been killed after their car was hit by a goods train in Mallala, north of Adelaide.

Two people have been killed after their car was hit by a goods train in Mallala, north of Adelaide.

The crash took place just after 3pm on Thursday at a level crossing with no boom gates or stop signs.

The Ford four wheel drive was hit as it crossed tracks and was pushed some way down the rails by the 1.8 kilometre-long train.

The Australian Rail Track Corporation said the train was heading from Perth to Melbourne.

A Pacific National spokeswoman said the fatal accident occured at a level crossing near Two Wells.

“Emergency services are on the scene and the incident will be subject to investigation,” she said.

Major crash investigators have attended the scene of the collision and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
