Toowoomba man Cameron Hunt, 45, charged with arson and murder over wife’s death
A Queensland father of two, Cameron Hunt, has been charged with murder and arson after a fatal house blaze that killed his wife.
A Queensland father of two has been charged with arson and the murder of his wife, whose body was found in their Toowoomba home which burnt down on Tuesday morning.
Cameron Hunt, 45, was to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court after being charged with domestic violence murder as well as arson, following the fatal house blaze that occurred in Geham Toowoomba – 100km west of Brisbane – after 2am Tuesday.
His wife Louise Hunt was found dead inside the rural property, which led to homicide detectives from Brisbane being called in.
The children were reportedly found uninjured outside the home, and are now with relatives.
Hunt was charged on Wednesday.
After establishing Operation X-ray Geo, police quickly located Hunt at an address in Redcliffe, north-east of Brisbane, and transferred him to Toowoomba for questioning.
Detective Superintendent George Marchesini verified that two young children were residing at the residence but were left uninjured, now living with relatives.
“I can say that those children are safe and well and are accounted for,’’ he said.
The Toowoomba community has quickly responded to the tragic happenings, with Toowoomba mayor Geoff McDonald issuing a statement on Facebook.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic and senseless loss in our community,” he said.
“Our deepest condolences go out to all who are grieving. No one should ever have their life taken by violence.”
