Sydney Theatre Company foundation director Tim Minchin appears to have denied suggestions that he weighed into the controversy surrounding a pro-Palestine stunt from the company’s actors.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, the singer-songwriter wrote: “I thought if I ever get cancelled it would be for something I actually said.”

This comes after it was reported that he called out people who live in “leftie bubbles” and have misguided views of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Actor Violette Ayad, who stars in Oil at STC, wore a Palestinian keffiyeh headscarf during the show at the Wharf Theatre on Wednesday night and has vowed to wear it every night of the season.

Sydney Theatre Company has publicly apologised for the actions taken by three actors at the curtain call following a performance of The Seagull on November 25, where they pulled on keffiyeh scarfs in solidarity with Palestinians.
