The Australian garners podcast nominations

The Australian’s The Lighthouse and Who The Hell Is Hamish? podcasts have been nominated across numerous categories in this year’s Australian Podcast Awards.

Two podcasts produced by The Australian — The Lighthouse and Who The Hell Is Hamish? — have been nominated across numerous categories in this year’s national podcast awards.

The Lighthouse, a six-part investigative series into the disappearance of Belgian tourist Theo Hayez in Byron Bay, led by national crime correspondent David Murray, has been nominated in the Australian Podcast Awards for best true crime podcast.

It has also been nominated in the spotlight award category, which acknowledges podcasts with sizeable audiences that are bringing the medium into the mainstream.

Who The Hell Is Hamish?, a series hosted by feature writer Greg Bearup, investigates the life and exploits of serial conman Hamish Watson, who is accused of swindling a handful of victims out of more than $7m.

It was nominated as best new podcast alongside 7AM from Schwartz Media, the Life Uncut Podcast by Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley and Marc Fennell’s Nut Jobs and ABC Regional’s Little Green Pod.

The nominations came just weeks after national chief correspondent Hedley Thomas and two others — Slade Gibson and Peter Murphy — were shortlisted in this year’s Walkley Awards for their podcast The Night Driver.

That podcast delves into the disappearance of Bathurst woman Janine Vaughan 19 years ago and uncovers how her case has split a close-knit community.

Walkley Award winners will be announced in a live broadcast on November 20.
