Sunnybank Hills tragedy: Dead baby’s twin dies in Queensland hospital
The twin sister of a baby girl who died in what appears to be a sleeping accident also has died.
A second baby girl has died after a tragic accident at a home in Brisbane’s south on Wednesday that also claimed the life of her twin.
The six-week-old was rushed to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition on Wednesday morning but passed away around 7.30pm on Thursday night.
Paramedics were called to a home at Sunnybank Hills before 6am on Wednesday after a woman believed to be the girl’s mother woke to find the babies unresponsive next to her in bed.
Police initially established a crime scene but soon ruled the incident “not suspicious”. It is understood that the babies had been sleeping together throughout the night and may have been smothered by bedding.
Neighbours said the father was heard “howling” on Wednesday morning after he learnt one of his daughters had died.
The couple have two older children.
It has been a week of heartbreak in Brisbane. Last Saturday, baby sisters Darcey-Helen, 2, and Chloe-Ann, 1, died after they were left in a hot car in front of their Logan home. Their mother Kerri-Ann Conley, 27, has been charged with the murder of her daughters.
