Stalking charges for William Tyrrell’s foster mother

The foster mother of missing boy William Tyrrell has been charged with two counts of stalking and intimidation by NSW police.

The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged on Friday.

It comes as the little boy’s foster parents pleaded not guilty in December to assault charges laid in November.

In February, the 56-year-old was also charged with a separate count of common assault.

Her lawyer, Sharon Ramsden, told Hornsby Local Court at the time her client would be pleading not guilty to the assault charge.

In November, it was reported Tyrrell’s foster mother and now-deceased foster grandmother were being treated as persons of interest in his disappearance.

They deny any wrongdoing and no charges have been laid in relation to his disappearance.

NSW police said they could not provide a comment because of non-publication orders.

A court has previously heard the woman intended to have the assault charges dealt with under the Mental Health Act, and that medical assessments had been carried out.

A successful application allows a person who is charged with a criminal or traffic offence and suffers from a mental health impairment or cognitive impairment to avoid a conviction or a finding of guilt.

In November, an interim apprehended violence order was taken out on behalf of a child, who cannot be identified for legal ­reasons, in relation to the assault charges.

The child is not William Tyrrell.

At the end of last year, police conducted a renewed search for the boy in three areas surrounding Kendall.

The new charges will be heard in court on April 29.
