Skateboard gold medallist Arisa Trew adds duck to her Olympic haul

Arisa Trew has completed the trifecta: go to the Olympics at age 14, win a gold medal, get a duck.

Go to the Paris Games at age 14 … tick. Win a gold medal to be the ninth-youngest Olympic champion in history … tick. Receive a duck … now Arisa Trew can tick that dream off too.

The Gold Coast skateboarder revealed after her triumph in the park event in Paris that her parents had promised her a pet duck if she won the gold medal.

It was an off-the-cuff promise that Aiko and Simon Trew weren’t convinced they would have to fulfil but on Wednesday a Gold Coast radio station got in ahead of them, presenting the teenager with a duck live on air.

“I’ve wanted a duck since I was really young,” Arisa told Triple M Gold breakfast presenters Flan, Spida and Ali. “They’re just really cute, and I love animals.”

In her post-medal interview in Paris, Arisa said she loved ducks and wanted a pet one to take on walks and to the skate park.

“My parents wouldn’t let me get a dog or cat because we are travelling so much right now,” she told the Nine Network at the time.

“I feel like a duck might be a ­little easier.”

Mrs Trew told SBS earlier this week she had agreed to the “duck for a gold medal” promise thinking that “getting gold was going to be very difficult”.

“And she really did … and so I was like ‘Oh, no!’” Mrs Trew said.

Arisa will have to wait a while to take her new duck home as she will be heading overseas to compete in her next round of competitions, including the World Skate Games in Italy next month.

Arisa told Triple M she had suggested she give her future pet an Olympic-themed name such as Paris or Goldie but added: “I’m still deciding.”

She said she would “definitely” train her duck to ride a skateboard.
