Queensland shooter arrested, with Kingaroy hospital’s partial lockdown lifted

Police arrested a Queensland man after he avoided authorities regarding an early-morning shooting.

A shooter with a high-powered rifle was arrested on Wednesday after firing multiple shots into a house in the early hours of the morning, triggering a police manhunt and sending a local hospital into lockdown for several hours.

The 25-year-old man fired multiple shots into a house in Kingaroy, west of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, before 4am on Wednesday, and evaded police capture for several hours.

As authorities hunted down the man, the Kingaroy Hospital, 1.7km away from the shooting, was partially locked down from 6.15am.

Police alleged that he stole a Subaru which was eventually tracked down, leading to the man’s arrest.

He was arrested at around 1.30pm at Goodger, south of Kingaroy, with police alleging he was found in possession of multiple high-powered rifles that he had stolen in the past 24 hours.

There is not any danger to the public.

Superintendent Doug McDonald said a woman who was in the Kingaroy house at the time of the shooting was uninjured and was assisting police with inquires.

“That female person is safe … Some medical treatment was given to that female person,” he said

“We think there were other people in that house at the time, and they’re assisting us with our inquiries.”

A different spokesperson for Queensland police said a person was treated for shock in relation to the shooting.

The man was allegedly wanted by police before the shooting.

Schools were advised to close down, with Saint Mary’s Catholic College, 1.3km away from the shooting, locking down for Wednesday.

Police are continuing their investigation, with multiple search warrants on South Burnett homes.
