Scott Morrison cautions fight against ISIS isn’t over after death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
Scott Morrison cautions the fight against ISIS hasn’t ended with the death of its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Scott Morrison has described the death of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in a US air strike in Syria as a significant blow for the “perverted” terror group, but cautions the fight against the terrorist organisation hasn’t ended with the high-profile death.
“This is a many-headed monster, Daesh, and as you cut one off, another one inevitably arises,” the prime minister told reporters in Sydney on Monday.

“While we welcome this news ... we are mindful though that the threat continues and we must remain vigilant and we will continue to be so ever-vigilant working with our partners around the world.”
Mr Morrison said no Australians were involved in the daring night-time raid that killed a “large number” of Islamic State militants, and culminated in Baghdadi being cornered in a tunnel where he set off a suicide vest.
Labor leader Anthony Albanese “welcomed” the significant development.
“I welcome this, ISIS and its affiliates are engaged in evil,” Mr Albanese said. “They want to destroy our way of life, they engage in terrorist activity against their fellow Muslims, as well as around the world.”
Mr Albanese also paid tribute to the Australian Defence Force and other armies across the world that have “played an important role fighting against this evil group who don’t have the same values that we have.”
President Donald Trump said that the elusive Islamic State leader died “like a dog” during the daring, night-time raid by US special forces deep in northwest Syria.
Mr Trump said the raid — which required eight military helicopters flying more than an hour from an undisclosed base over territory controlled by Russian and Syrian forces, had been accomplished by help from Russia, Syria, Turkey and Iraq. Mr Trump also thanked Kurdish fighters in Syria for their support
