Michael Bryce, husband of Australia’s former governor-general and an internationally respected designer, has died aged 82.
Michael Bryce, the husband of former Australian governor-general Dame Quentin Bryce, has died aged 82.
The well-respected international designer passed away overnight at his family home in Brisbane.
“He died at home surrounded by his family after suffering from a protracted illness,” said former official secretary to the Governor-general Stephen Brady.
Mr Brady added the death did not come as a shock.
Mr Bryce was an architect and designer acknowledged in Australia and overseas for his work in urban and environmental design.
He spent the early years of his career starting his own architecture practice in Brisbane, during which time he was appointed to Federal President of the Industrial Design Institute of Australia in 1979.
In September 2008, he retired from his practice upon the appointment of Ms Bryce as Governor-general of Australia. The practice he founded continues today under the name Minale Bryce Design Strategy.
Michael and Quentin Bryce were married in 1964. They have two daughters, three sons, and ten grandchildren.
Funeral details will be announced in the coming days.
