A senior public servant in Queensland’s Education Department has been stood aside over the corruption probe that led to Jackie Trad resigning as Treasurer and deputy premier over the weekend.

The bureaucrat, who has not been named, has been ensnared in the official Crime and Corruption Commission investigation into allegations Ms Trad interfered in the recruitment of a principal of a new school in her inner-city electorate.

Ms Trad was informed by the CCC on Friday that the watchdog had elevated an assessment of a complaint about the recruitment to an official investigation, prompting the high-profile Labor MP to quit cabinet.

Education Director-General Tony Cook issued a statement on Monday afternoon confirming the public servant had been stood down.

“A senior executive of the Department of Education has been stood aside today from their position with the department, effective immediately,’’ he said.

“Out of respect for the executive’s privacy, no further comment will be made at this time.’’
