Sidoti advised Berejiklian of land buy back in May

The NSW Premier failed to make a ruling on the declarations of property buys by the time John Sidoti stood down this month.

The NSW minister who recently stood down pending an ICAC preliminary investigation into his purchase of two properties near proposed metro stations made a declaration about the properties to Premier Gladys Berejiklian in May — but the Premier had failed to make a ruling on the declarations by the time John Sidoti stood down this month.

The revelations are contained in an index of “privileged” documents tabled to the upper house as part of a Labor “call for papers” on the scandal around the Sports and Multiculturalism Minister, who stood aside earlier this month.

Mr Sidoti is under fire for taking a 10 per cent share in a large piece of land to build apartments near a northwest metro station.

His parents have also bought property in Five Dock, near a proposed Western Metro station. The index of documents shows Mr Sidoti sent emails to the Department of Premier and Cabinet on May 22 this year, two months after he became a minister, concerning his disclosures and an “application for premier’s rulings”.

It also shows the ruling had not been given by the Premier before this month, when Mr Sidoti stood aside while the corruption watchdog looks into the purchases.

Ms Berejiklian did not deny on Friday that she had failed to make a ruling on whether there was a conflict, with a spokesman saying: “These matters are currently the subject of a preliminary investigation by the Independent Commission Against Corruption and it would be inappropriate to comment while that is ongoing.”
