Queensland LNP elevates Cynthia Hardy to be its new president
Queensland’s Liberal National Party has elevated Cynthia Hardy to be its new president following David Hutchinson’s resignation.
Queensland’s Liberal National Party has elevated Cynthia Hardy to be its new president.
A meeting of the LNP state executive voted to elect Ms Hardy, currently the party’s vice-president, to become its president after the resignation of David Hutchinson just three months out from the state election.
Ms Hardy beat former LNP president Gary Spence and ophthalmologist and former federal candidate Bill Glasson in the vote.
On Friday, Mr Hutchinson bowed to internal pressure over his links with party rival Clive Palmer and after he was outed leading a destabilising campaign earlier this year against state LNP leader Deb Frecklington.
A Newspoll on Friday indicated the LNP had a slim lead over Labor, with 51 per cent of the vote to Labor’s 49 after preferences are distributed.
The LNP has gained 4.3 per cent since the 2017 election, and the ALP has lost 1.4 per cent, which, if replicated on October 31 would indicate a possible hung parliament.
