Prime Minister Scott Morrison urged Australians to give more “love” and “prayers” in a time of massive social change in Australia.
Speaking at the Hillsong annual conference last night, Mr Morrison told the congregation all religions and faiths need to be protected.
“There’s a lot of talk about our freedoms as Christians in this country and they should be protected,” Mr Morrison said, “There’s nothing more fundamental than freedom of belief.”
“Whatever that belief may be, whether you have one or you don’t … that needs to be nourished and that needs to be protected,”
Mr Morrison said the Australia needs both protection of freedom of religion and “the love of God”.
‘This country needs more love and less judgment,” Mr Morrison said.
Mr Morrison told the crowd he would do everyone from a legislative perspective to protect freedom of religion, but urged people to keep “loving” even if they are persecuted.
“It’s not the laws that make freedom of religion work, it’s the culture that accepts it,” he continued.
Mr Morrison said he spoke about his faith not for any political agenda but to encourage others to do the same.
“Wherever you are, be who God made you,” he said, before leading the congregation in a prayer.
