A man has been charged after he allegedly used social media to threaten Scott Morrison and Josh Frydenberg.

The 58-year-old from Tamworth in northern NSW was arrested on Tuesday after police raided a home in Hillvue, in the regional town’s south.

Electronic devices were seized as well as three cannabis plants.

The arrest follows an investigation by the Fixated Persons Investigation Unit that began last month after comments made about the MPs came to the attention of law enforcement.

NSW police said the threats had been directed against the Prime Minister and Treasurer.

The man was charged with using a carriage service to menace/harass/offend and cultivating a prohibited plant. He was released on bail to front Tamworth Local Court on February 8.

A Nimbin man was arrested by NSW police on Monday in a similar incident, after he allegedly sent threatening emails to Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.

The man, 53, from the regional NSW town near Byron Bay, was charged with using a carriage service to threaten to kill and two counts of using a carriage service to menace/harass/offend.
