Newspoll’s detailed predictions for the West Australian election on Saturday are proving accurate, including the size of the swing against Labor and a two-party-preferred result within 1 per cent of the current count.

Counting so far shows Labor’s two-party-preferred result is 58.3 per cent. It was predicted by Newspoll at 57.5 per cent, within one percentage point.

Newspoll also accurately forecast the primary votes of the Liberal, Nationals, Greens and One Nation parties.

While counting continues, results so far show Newspoll has predicted the WA Liberals’ primary vote within 0.4 percentage points.

The Newspoll, conducted exclusively for The Australian and published on Friday, also predicted the Nationals’ primary vote within 0.1 percentage points. The primary vote of the Greens was predicted by Newspoll within 0.5 points and the primary vote of One Nation was predicted by Newspoll within 0.7 points.

Pyxis Polling & Insights managing director Campbell White said Newspoll continued to live up to its reputation as the poll Australians relied on.

“This was a challenging election to get right because of the massive size of the swing while still being a Labor landslide,” Dr White said.

“All predictions were within the margin of error of the poll, which was 3.4 per cent.”
