Relegated Liberal Amanda Stoker has surged past Pauline Hanson for the final Senate spot in Queensland, tightening a seesaw contest that could deprive One Nation of its talismanic leader.

The outcome will likely take another week to emerge.

The high-profile Senator Stoker, 39, star of the religious Right, was dropped to the challenging No. 3 position on the LNP ticket at the election, but on Friday was leading Senator Hanson, 68, in a yoyo-like race.

She has picked up postal returns and on Thursday led Senator Hanson, who caught up on Friday – only to be overtaken again. With an estimated 700,000 postal votes yet to be tabulated, LNP and Labor figures agree Senator Hanson is better placed to secure minor and micro party preferences to win.
