KEVIN Rudd has been given a rockstar reception walking through the streets of Brisbane with his wife Therese as he attempts to sure up support for his leadership tilt on Monday.

In what looked like a media appearance during an election campaign, Mr Rudd posed for photographs, gave hugs and even signed the arms of his supporters.

Mr Rudd also stopped to speak to the media in Brisbane's Queen Street Mall and said he appreciated the "standout" comments from Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese earlier today.

A teary Mr Albanese said he would be supporting Mr Rudd in the 10am leadership ballot on Monday because he had been unhappy about the way Mr Rudd was deposed as prime minister in 2010.

"I just watched Albo's speech and I am really humbled by what he had to say, not just about me but what he had to say about future of the Labor party," Mr Rudd said.

"What Albo is talking about is fundamental, it's about what unites us rather than divides us."

Mr Rudd appeared to be seeking a truce with those in the party who had been attacking him publicly in recent days.

He said the Labor party had achieved great things since it came to office in 2007 and even acknowledged that Julia Gillard had achieved some good reforms.

"What we have done together under my leadership, and Julia's, has been fantastic for the country," Mr Rudd said.

"I think all of us really need to be taking up his (Mr Albanese's) call for us to detox some of this debate."

Before he left Mr Rudd stood up on a park bench in front of more than 50 supporters and said "thanks for your friendship, thanks for your support".

"Therese is down there and she's got to be somewhere so we've got to zip," he said.

Supporters were heard shouting "go Kevin" and wishing him well in Monday's challenge.

They cheered and shouted "Bye Kevin" as he left in his car.

One of Mr Rudd's key backers this afternoon came out and said Mr Albanese's public support for the former prime minister would have an impact on Mr Rudd's ability to secure a majority of votes in the caucus.

"This situation is fluid," Manufacturing Minister Kim Carr told ABC News 24.

"I think he can win on Monday."
