The Turnbull government will bolster the lookout and memorial at the scene of former prime minister Harold Holt’s disappearance.

Health Minister Greg Hunt said the government would contribute $50,000 towards a memorial commemorating Mr Holt at Cheviot Beach on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

Mr Hunt, the Member for Flinders where the beach is situated, wrote to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull this week seeking the funding. It has been approved.

Mr Holt’s son Sam Holt was told today of the move and the family and Parks Victoria will be consulted on the final design.
