Nationals MP George Christensen has added a musical twist to his campaign to hold onto his marginal North Queensland seat, though hopefully he is better at holding his electorate than he is at holding a tune.

Mr Christensen has released a nearly six minute-long video where he sings about his successes in Dawson — which he holds by 3.4 per cent — to the tune of “I’ve Been Everywhere, Man”.

“I got us our share, man. I got us our share, man … made North Queensland fair, man,” he sings.

Mr Christensen precedes to list his achievements in the electorate, while also singing about the shortcomings of Bill Shorten and Labor.

The very, very long video opens up with Mr Christensen in a leotard dancing to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”. His singing does not improve as the six minutes drag on.

The Nationals MP has been under fire in recent weeks for large amounts of the past three years overseas in the Philippines, rather than in his marginal electorate.

Scott Morrison said last month that Mr Christensen has not spent one day in the Philippines since he became prime minister and he expects MPs to be “in their electorates doing their jobs.”

Other politicians in the past have also ventured unsuccessfully into music. Former Labor minister Craig Emerson infamously tried to debunk attacks from the Coalition to the tune of Skyhooks’ “Horror Movie”.
