Free training to control rowdy classroom chaos
Teachers struggling to control rowdy students now have access to a free classroom management training course.
Teachers struggling to control rowdy students now have access to a free classroom management training course.
The federal government is funding the University of Adelaide short course to help teachers create “safe and orderly” classrooms, address frequent interruptions to learning, build positive relationships with students and manage escalations in bad behaviour.
Federal Education Minister Jason Clare said the training would “support new and experienced teachers and help to improve student outcomes’’.
The launch of the free micro-credential comes as NSW Education Minister Prue Car raised the alarm over violent students.
“We have to make sure that schools are not responsible for having to remediate everything that is a challenge in society,’’ she told The Australian.
“A lot of schools are really very concerned about challenging behaviour of kids, particularly pre-pubescent and teenage kids, and a lot of school principals and teachers are telling me that it is getting worse.’’
Ms Car said her government had given principals “more power to suspend’’ disruptive students.
“I do have cases where teachers are injured, and for all the other kids in that class it’s taking away their opportunity to access education as well,’’ she said.
“We can teach students that is not the way to behave … and then follow that up with action.
“If you persistently misbehave, the consequences will be clear.’’
