Coronavirus: Daniel Andrews points to peak in two weeks
Daniel Andrews has declared Victorian government health modelling suggests that COVID-19 cases will begin to peak towards the end of next week.
Daniel Andrews has declared Victorian government health modelling on coronavirus infections suggests that COVID-19 cases will begin to peak towards the end of next week and decline the week after.
The Victorian Premier also undertook to release official Victorian Health Department modelling forecasts after a few more days of “real data” on new daily cases, after he announced the case-rate for Wednesday was 471, dramatically down on Tuesday’s record 725 infections and 15 deaths.
He said the modelling suggested there would be continued outbreaks and new cases although it was hoped there would be a decline within two weeks.
He said the government was cautious about releasing modelling because of the uncertain nature of the calculations. “We’ll release what’s possible but there’s a lot of uncertainty around these sorts of things and, you know, we expect it to go down,” he said.
Government sources said there was a range of modelling being conducted on coronavirus infections, including by contract partners of the government.
Mr Andrews said he had not seen modelling revealed in The Australian on Thursday, nor had his Chief Health Officer.
The modelling suggested the average of new cases would not peak until the end of the third week of August and not decline until the end of August.
