Captain GetUp threatened with death
Conservative crusader Captain GetUp! has received death threats on the campaign trail.
Political mascot Captain GetUp! has received death threats in the first week on the campaign trail.
Garard Benedet, the National Director of Advance Australia, the conservative activist group behind the mascot, told Sky News this morning the group had received threats online, but neither Captain GetUp nor Advance Australia would be deterred.

People want us to hold left-wing activists to account, engage and educate the public and support candidates who are under attack from left-wing activist organisations like GetUp.

The threats come amid a backlash against the caped crusader and Advance Australia, after the group posted a video showing the mascot gyrating against a billboard of independent candidate for Warringah Zali Steggal.
“Captain GetUp is designed to raise awareness of GetUp’s past, of its methods and culture and its policy ideas.” Mr Benedet said, “It’s gone a little awry on one occasion and we have made an apology for that.
“It’s pretty well known we had an incident with Captain GetUp this week,” he added, “It was a mistake and it won’t happen again.”
Advance Australiaâs Garard Benedet:@CaptGetUp is here to raise awareness of GetUpâs past, its methods and policy ideas. Weâll be travelling to marginal seats, particularly where GetUp are targeting MPs on what they call their âhit listâ.

Mr Benedet promised in future all content would be personally authorised by him, with his name on it, and Advance Australia would keep their campaign clean.
“Captain GetUp! will be travelling around to marginal seats, particularly where GetUp are targeting MPs on what they call their hit list,” Mr Benedet said.
