Senator Fraser Anning will not be charged for punching a 17-year-old protester twice in the face after Victoria Police determined he acted in self-defence.

Senator Anning grabbed headlines last month when protester Will Connolly threw an egg at him over the anti-Muslim comments the senator made in the wake of the Christchurch terror attacks. Senator Anning retaliated by hitting the boy twice.

Victoria Police yesterday announced there was no reasonable prospect of convicting Senator Anning and issued Mr Connolly with an official caution for throwing the egg.

“The 17-year-old Hampton boy has been issued with an official caution in relation to the incident. A decision has been made not to charge the 69-year-old man,’’ police said.
