A report into allegations against stood aside education minister Alan Tudge, made by his former staffer Rachelle Miller, that he physically and emotionally abused her during a consensual affair, has been with Scott Morrison for two weeks.

But Mr Tudge has not seen the report or been briefed, the government has claimed, despite announcing on Saturday he would recontest May’s election.

Mr Tudge was stood down as education minister last year following Ms Miller’s allegations, with the Prime Minister ordering an investigation into the matter by former inspector-general of intelligence and security Vivienne Thom.

Ms Miller declined to participate in the inquiry and slammed it as “rushed” and nothing more than a “political fix”.

Mr Tudge “completely and utterly rejected” the allegations of abuse. He did admit to the consensual affair, which he said he “regretted deeply”.

Prime Minister and Cabinet deputy secretary Stephanie Foster told a Senate estimates hearing on Monday that Mr Morrison was aware of the conclusion of the report and his office had received it at the end of January.

“My understanding from his office is he’s been briefed,” she said. She also confirmed Dr Thom’s bill for the inquiry was more than $40,000. The government confirmed this had taken the total cost of inquiries into allegations and complaints made by Ms Miller to $80,000.

Asked when Mr Tudge would be briefed and the inquiry concluded, Ms Foster said the department was working as “expeditiously as possible”.
