THE body of a second missing snowboarder has been found in Victorian alpine country, around 60 metres from where his friend was earlier found dead.
Victoria Police said Martie Buckland was found by search-and-rescue workers shortly after 11am, and that his body was higher up on the slope, under about a metre of snow.
Mr Buckland was a 33-year-old father of one from Yarra Junction, east of Melbourne.
The body of 32-year-old Daniel Kerr, from Hawthorn in Melbourne’s inner east, was retrieved yesterday from under four metres of snow, around 400m down a slope on Mt Bogong’s Eskdale Spur.
The pair had been snowboarding off the highest mountain in the state, Mount Bogong, in Victoria’s north-east.
Police said the area was treacherous and prone to avalanches, making it fit only for expert adventurers.
Both men were reportedly experienced outdoorsmen.
