NT Police are calling for witnesses to an alleged indecent assault that occurred in Tennant Creek on Monday night.
The girl – aged younger than 10 – was talking to the man at the front of her home between 7.30pm and 8pm, police said on Tuesday.
Police will not reveal who found the child or notified authorities, but as soon as they attended the scene they declared it a crime scene.
The girl was taken to hospital for a medical assessment.
Regional Crime Division detectives are calling for the public to help identify the alleged offender.
He is described as being of Indigenous appearance, tall and slim, with curly hair. Aged in his 20s, he was wearing a red shirt.
