Man to face court on murder charge after woman found dead in Hunter Valley
A 47-year-old man is expected to appear in court on Saturday after being charged with the murder of a 47-year-old woman in an alleged domestic violence incident.
A man has been charged over an alleged domestic violence murder after a woman was found dead in the Hunter Valley on Friday night.
Emergency services attended a property on Coulson Rd, Pokolbin at about 6.10pm in response to a report of a concern for welfare where a 46-year-old woman was found with significant injuries.
The woman was treated at the scene however she could not be revived.
Police arrested a 47-year-old man at the property who was then charged with murder (DV) at Cessnock Police station.
Acting Superintendent Steve Benson from the Hunter Valley Police District said that a “large scale” investigation is underway and that detectives are still probing the exact nature of the relationship between the man and woman.
““It was a confronting scene,” Mr Benson said on Saturday afternoon.
“An investigation of this nature will be ongoing for a number of days and weeks.”
The Hunter Valley officer said that the call to police came from a family member who was also on the property.
The man was refused bail and will appear before Newcastle Local Court on Saturday.
A crime scene has been established, with detectives continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
