A second man has been charged in relation to the gangland shooting of Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad in April.

Officers from Strike Force Betta arrested Jason Laria at a relative’s home in Sydney’s west on Tuesday evening.

The 37-year-old was charged with four offences, including accessory after the fact to murder.

Ahmad, a longtime crime figure and leader of the infamous Ahmad family, was gunned down in Greenacre leaving an associate’s home.

He had previously been warned on multiple occasions by police that there was a $1 million bounty on his head.

Two dark-coloured luxury cars were found alight in Belmore and Strathfield later that evening.

Laria was also charged with knowingly or recklessly direct criminal group assist crime, take part (in) supply prohibited drug more than large commercial quantity, and possess prohibited drug.

In a statement, police said they allege Laria was involved in the planning of Ahmad’s death.

This is the second arrest in relation to the shooting, with 49-year-old Frank Delcol charged with one count of being an accessory before and after the fact of the murder.

The NSW Supreme Court heard in June that police allege Delcol strategically left a getaway car at a location ahead of Ahmad’s killing, and picked it up from another location several days after.

Laria was refused police bail and will face a magistrate at Fairfield Local Court later today.

Admad was released on parole last year after pleading guilty to manslaughter in 2020 over the shooting death of Safwan Charbaji in 2016.

When a warrant was issued for his arrest, he fled to Lebanon and was arrested upon his return in 2017.

Police say investigations are continuing.
