Man, 24, charged over shooting
Police have charged a 24-year-old man after a man, 46, and woman, 25, were shot several times in Brisbane on Saturday.
A man is in a stable condition after being shot several times in the chest while out walking in Brisbane’s south.
The 46-year-old man, accompanied by a woman, 25, and a dog, were walking towards a home in the suburb of Sunnybank Hills about 7am on Saturday when they were repeatedly shot at from the veranda by a 24-year-old man.
The shooter is alleged to have chased the couple from the property and on to Goman Street, where they took refuge in a bus stop.
The alleged perpetrator jumped a fence and continued to shoot at the pair, before fleeing in a black BMW with another person. He surrendered to police two hours later at a property in the neighbouring suburb of Doolandella.
The 46-year-old was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition. He underwent emergency surgery and was in stable yesterday afternoon.
The woman was treated for non-life-threatening leg wounds.
Police charged the 24-year-old man with six counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, and one count of possession of a dangerous drug. He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
Inspector Geoff Acreman said the victims and the alleged gunman knew each other.
In an eventful weekend in the suburb, police were called yesterday after a man tried to set a petrol bowser alight. He was taken into custody and is undergoing a mental health assessment.
No charges have been laid.
