Hedley Thomas, one of the world’s foremost investigative journalists, has a new and unmissable podcast series: Bronwyn.

A new Hedley Thomas podcast has launched.

The podcast, titled Bronwyn, examines the disappearance of a young mother who vanished from her home in idyllic Lennox Head, near Byron Bay on the NSW far north coast, in May 1993.

While a coroner recommended that a “known person” be charged with her murder, the office of the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions refused to proceed with a prosecution.

In 2008 the NSW government posted a $100,000 reward to help solve the case.

Then police minister Michael Daley said: “Her estranged husband reported her missing to police on the 27 May 1993.

“She left behind two young children, aged five and 10 at the time, making the attack all the more heinous. Ms Winfield’s family, particularly her children, deserve to know what happened – and her murderer deserves to be behind bars.”

Now Thomas has trained his focus on the case, interviewing family, friends and neighbours and analysing vital documents.

Thomas is The Australian’s national chief correspondent and one of Australia’s foremost investigative journalists.

He has twice won Australian journalism’s highest honour, the Gold Walkley, as well as a host of other awards in a journalistic career stretching across five decades.

After decades of newspaper reporting in Australia and around the world, Hedley turned to audio investigations in 2018 with the worldwide blockbuster The Teacher’s Pet, which has had more than 80 million downloads.

The Teacher’s Pet explored the 1982 disappearance of Sydney mother Lynette Simms, and after its publication her husband, Christopher Michael Dawson, was charged with the murder of Lyn and the unlawful carnal knowledge of a schoolgirl who later became his second wife.

Dawson was convicted of both offences and is now serving 25 years behind bars.

He is appealing the murder conviction before the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal.

Hedley’s subsequent podcasts include The Night Driver, Shandee’s Story, The Teacher’s Trial and Shandee’s Legacy, all of which have gone straight to number one on Australian and international podcast charts.
