The two flatmates of missing teenage girl Pheobe Bishop have been charged with her murder but Queensland police have yet to find her body three weeks after she went missing.

Couple James Wood, 34, and Tanika Bromley, 33, have each been charged with one count of murder and two counts of interfering with a corpse.

The couple lived with Phoebe, 17, in a property at Gin Gin home, 50km west of Bundaberg. She was supposed to board a flight at Bundaberg Airport on May 15 to fly to Western Australia to visit her boyfriend but never checked in.

Investigators do not believe she entered the airport.

Mr Wood was taken into custody by Queensland police on Wednesday afternoon but was released on Thursday morning without charge.

Police did not reveal the focus of Mr Wood’s questioning but revealed detectives were “continuing to run through several lines of inquiry as investigations continue”.

On Wednesday, police said that all physical searches for Phoebe had been called off.

Investigators had staged extensive land, air, and waterway searches at Gin Gin and the nearby Good Night Scrub National Park.

Multiple items found in bushland believed to be linked to the investigation were seized.

Police said extra searches might be conducted “where required”.

The property was declared a crime scene on May 21, as was the couple’s grey Hyundai ix35.

During the course of the investigation, both Mr Wood and Ms Bromley were charged with weapon offences after police alleged they found a shortened firearm, ammunition and two replica handguns inside their Hyundai. A Queensland Police spokesman said that the weapon offences were unrelated to Phoebe’s disappearance.

Phoebe’s mother, Kylie Johnson, has been active on social media since her daughter went missing. “I don’t know if life will ever be the same again,” she wrote on Wednesday.

“I don’t know if I will ever look at the world the same way that I did before May 15th.”

Phoebe was last seen wearing a green tank top with grey sweatpants. The luggage she carried has not been found.
