Gripping new investigative podcast My Sister’s Secrets has already captivated The Australian’s readers, and today episode one becomes available on all audio streaming platforms including Apple, Spotify and Google Podcasts.

Created by journalist Virginia Tapscott and Steve Jackson, My Sister’s Secrets is already one of The Australian’s most-downloaded podcasts.

For the past 10 days it has been available to subscribers only, via our app and website, but today it will debut in the top 10 on the overall Australian audio charts.

Supported by The Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas, My Sister’s Secrets is an eight-part multimedia investigation into sexual predators within Tapscott’s family — two male relatives who preyed on Virginia and her elder sister Alex, triggering deep trauma that saw Alex die by overdose in 2020.

The podcast explores how abusers operate within families, creating secrets and lies to hide their crimes – and the emotional and societal pressures that keep survivors quiet.

In the wake of her sister’s death, Tapscott has vowed to get justice and this podcast is the first step, bringing scrutiny to Alex’s abusers and exposing the flaws in a justice system that failed to help her.

Courageous family members, friends and colleagues of Alex have agreed to break their silence in the hope police will open an investigation.

While one of the perpetrators — the women’s step-grandfather Bruce Tout — is now deceased, another male relative who stands accused of raping Alex when she was 21 is still at large.

Several women have come forward with new allegations against him, and it is hoped listeners will help provide new leads to take the case forward.

My Sister’s Secrets is the new investigative podcast from The Australian. Episodes one and two are live now in the podcasts section of our app or at mysisterssecrets.com.au
