Hillsong pastor Brian Houston has visited the White House two months after Scott Morrison came under fire over whether the preacher was invited to a state dinner with US President Donald Trump.

In a video posted to his Instagram account on Saturday, Mr Houston said it was a “great honour” to visit the Oval Office and pray for Mr Trump.

“Here I am at the White House, never say never,” Mr Houston said.

“It’s a great honour, of course, to have had the chance to go into the cabinet room, even into the Oval Office and pray for the President of the USA.”

In October, Mr Houston spoke out about claims the White House vetoed the Prime Minister’s request for him to be invited on the state visit, with the government refusing to confirm or deny a Wall Street Journal article.

While Mr Houston initially responded to the report as a “baseless rumour and totally false news”, he later conceded it was possible he was invited but played down reports of his alleged friendship with the Prime Minister.

Mr Houston was criticised by the child sex abuse royal commission for failing to report his father, Frank Houston, to police over pedophilia allegations.

“To me, it’s not about the politics, its about the position, and a significant man like the President of the US can do with all the prayer we can possibly give him,” he said in his Instagram post.

Mr Houston was invited to the White House as part of a “faith briefing” — a meeting designed to update the Trump administration on the progress of their faith-based initiatives.

The event included Christian leaders holding a service inside the building.

Mr Houston was featured on fellow Christian Sean Feucht’s Twitter account with a photo captioned: “Tryna play it cool *but geeking out inside* with the boss, the big eagle @BrianCHouston at the White House yesterday.

“What an honour to be with such incredible faith leaders!”

A separate tweet from Mr Feucht in reference to the meeting said: “Donald Trump expressed the need for prayer over America and wisdom for this administration and we were honoured and humbled to respond.”

Mr Houston’s visit came after Labor launched an attack on Mr Morrison in question time last week and asked why he wouldn’t reveal whether or not the Australian evangelist was invited to the White House in October.

The Prime Minister accused Labor of attacking his faith.
