Fraser Island dingo attack: toddler released from hospital
The toddler who was dragged from his family’s camper trailer by a dingo is expected to make a full recovery.
The toddler who was dragged from his family’s camper trailer by a dingo on Fraser Island has been discharged from hospital after undergoing surgery.
The boy’s family said they hoped he would make a full recovery from the head and neck injuries inflicted during the attack in the early hours of April 19.
Dragged from his bed within his family’s camper trailer in an unfenced site at Eurong, the boy’s fading cries woke his father, who wrestled his son from the dingo’s jaws.
In a statement, the Queensland Children’s Hospital said the boy had been discharged from hospital today.
“The boy suffered a fracture to his skull and multiple puncture wounds to his neck and skull. He underwent surgery on Friday afternoon and is recovering well,” the statement said.
The toddler’s parents issued a statement, thanking family for their support.
“We would also like to thank the amazing staff at the Queensland Children’s Hospital who have cared for our boy, and the emergency services personnel who were there for us in those first few critical hours,” the boy’s family said.
“We sincerely appreciate the thoughts, prayers and well wishes that have been publicly expressed for our family.
“Our son is doing well and we anticipate a full recovery.”
The attack was the third on a child on Fraser Island this year, prompting Queensland Environment Minister Leanne Enoch to announce a review of the dingo risk management plan “as a matter of urgency”.
