A childcare worker accused of being one of the nation’s worst pedophiles allegedly went on to abuse at least four girls at Brisbane childcare centres after Queensland Police were unable to substantiate accusations about his behaviour.

Court documents reveal horrific allegations of the 45-year-old man’s long-term abuse of children in his care, with some girls subjected to dozens of rapes over months.

A former colleague of the man said earlier this month she alerted Queensland Police to a kissing incident with a child in October 2021. Police said they investigated the allegation at the time but there was insufficient evidence to lay charges.

After that date, he remained at the centre before moving on in early 2022 to two other facilities in neighbouring northside suburbs. In that time, he allegedly assaulted four girls, and potentially a fifth, before his arrest in August that year.

A separate investigation was undertaken by Queensland Police in 2022, but no details are known. The man retained his Blue Card to work with children in Queensland until he was arrested by federal police.

The childcare worker – who cannot be named for legal reasons – has been accused of preying on 91 girls over the span of 15 years at 10 childcare centres across Brisbane, one in Sydney and another in Pisa, Italy.

More than 460 of the 1623 charges against the man are alleged to have occurred at one centre in a northern Brisbane suburb between March 2020 and March 2022, including counts of rape and making child exploitation material.

Two girls were allegedly subjected to 28 and 27 rapes each over almost year-long periods, all of which were recorded, according to police. One is alleged to have been assaulted twice in one day.

At the same location, another child was allegedly raped a dozen times, while seven others were assaulted 10 times or fewer.

While the court documents do not name the centres where the alleged crimes took place, the man was revealed to have worked at Brisbane City, Wavell Heights, Bowen Hills, Herston, Everton Park, Enoggera, and Wilston on the city’s northside, and the southside suburbs of Oxley and Manly West.

Some children were allegedly targeted more than others, with one child linked to 111 charges between February 27, 2011, and to June 1, 2013, and another to 136 incidents between March 17, 2020 and March 31, 2021.

Australian Federal Police detectives, who are leading the investigation, said the families of all the identified victims had already been contacted.

The majority of charges for the indecent treatment of children under 12 under his care were coupled with a separate charge of making child exploitation material containing images and videos of his young victims.

On August 21 and 22 last year, the man was charged with six counts of knowingly possessing child exploitation material.

The investigation began after AFP investigators linked footage the man had posted on the dark web to a Brisbane childcare centre. He has been charged with 27 counts of posting the material while working in Pisa between October 2013 and June 2014.

The woman who spoke to police about the man has been charged with computer hacking, after talking to the media about the man’s case.
