Donald Forrest, father of billionaire and former chief executive of Fortescue Metals Group Andrew Forrest, has died at the age of 95.
Mr Forrest reportedly passed away in his sleep early on Sunday morning, while staying at Minderoo station, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The property has been in the Forrest family home for four generations, once being sold by the family before being bought back by Andrew Forrest.
Donald Forrest’s body was escorted off of the property by a mounted guard, led by his son, other family members and Minderoo station hands. A celebration of his life is planned for this Sunday, with a memorial service in Perth at an unannounced date.
The Forrest family said its patriarch knew “he was with people and places he loved” as he passed away.
“We all wish him well in his onward journey,” the family said.
“He goes with the love, deep affection and enduring memories of all those whose lives his 95-year history has embraced.
“His legacy will be cherished by all who knew him.”
