Former television star Andrew O’Keefe allegedly tests positive to driving on meth

The troubled former television star has again been arrested by police after allegedly failing a roadside drug test in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Troubled former television star Andrew O’Keefe has been again arrested by police after allegedly failing a roadside drug test in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

O’Keefe appeared before a magistrate at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle he was driving was stopped by police on Wunulla Road in Point Piper on Friday January 20. 

The former host of Channel 7’s The Chase was taken to Waverley police station where he underwent a secondary oral fluid test, and his licence was suspended.

Police will allege in court the secondary test was positive for methamphetamine.

On Tuesday morning, O’Keefe was arrested at his Vaucluse home, a police spokesperson said.

“He was taken to Waverley Police Station where he was charged with drive vehicle with illicit drug present in blood and with breach of bail and refused bail to appear before Waverley Court today,” police said.

O’Keefe was bailed by a magistrate and ordered to comply with drug and alcohol testing and to be treated by a psychiatrist and psychologist “in regards to treatment for mental health”.

He is also prohibited from drinking alcohol and taking prohibited drugs, and must live at an address in Vaucluse.

The 51-year-old previously had a non-contact court order with a woman he has previously been in a relationship with who purchased a house on an adjoining street to Wunulla Road in December 2020.

He was released on bail by a Supreme Court judge last year after a stint on remand, and ordered to attend a residential rehab program, which he has since completed.

O’Keefe is currently contesting multiple domestic violence related charges, including two courts of common assault, two counts of possess prohibited drug, two counts of contravene apprehended violence order, one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and resist officer in execution of duty, which will be heard in November.

Six separate charges involving O’Keefe and a sex worker where it was alleged he assaulted and choked the woman were dropped in February.

He will return to Downing Centre Local Court on May 2.
