Former NSW Premier Mike Baird set to step down after four years from his CEO role at aged care provider HammondCare in late 2024

HammondCare CEO and former NSW premier Mike Baird will step down from his role in late 2024.

Former NSW premier Mike Baird intends to step down from his role as HammondCare chief executive next year.

The move comes as speculation continues to grow that he will make a return to politics.

Mr Baird became chair of Cricket Australia earlier this year and said he was not going to any other role following his departure from HammondCare.

“Leading HammondCare has been one of the greatest privileges of my life and I will never forget or cease to advocate for our frontline heroes across aged care and health,” he said.

Mr Baird said some key achievements in the role were supporting wage increases for aged care workers, contributing to the Aged Care Task Force and being a part of HammondCare growing by more than 50 per cent since 2019.

“But mostly I am proud to lead a united team absolutely passionate and dedicated to providing exceptional care for valued older Australians, especially the most vulnerable,” he said.

Mr Baird said he had more to achieve before leaving the company next year, and then would enjoy a good break.

HammondCare board chair Kok Kong Chan said Mr Baird’s decision was optimal timing for the company, allowing time for a strong recruitment and transition process. “I believe it’s good timing for Mike to hand over something beautiful,” Mr Chan said. “He has worked extremely hard with talented and dedicated leaders and teams to position us for a strong and hopeful future – all the while leading through a royal commission, unprecedented reform and, of course, a global pandemic.”
