Former cricketer Michael Slater back in rehab after breaching bail
Former cricket star Michael Slater has returned to a residential rehabilitation facility after being charged with breach of bail.
Former cricket star Michael Slater has returned to a residential rehabilitation facility.
The 52-year-old is defending assault and stalking/intimidation charges involving a 35-year-old woman following an alleged incident at his unit in April this year.
The cricket commentator’s matters were mentioned at Manly Local Court in Sydney’s northern beaches on Tuesday morning, where his lawyer requested the variation.
“He has already entered a residential rehabilitation facility; I prefer that facility not be published … (so) I haven’t named it,” James McLoughlin said.
Magistrate Robyn Denes suspended his requirement to reside at his Manly home while Slater was undertaking treatment at the residential rehabilitation facility or hospital.
It comes as Slater was charged with breaching bail just under two weeks ago after police were called to his home for a welfare check.
After police arrived, an ambulance was called and Slater was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital.
Slater spent more than 100 days in rehab towards the end of 2021 and in early 2022.
Three days after the alleged assault in April, Slater was granted conditional bail by a magistrate at Manly Local Court who ordered him to “be of good behaviour” and report daily to Manly Police Station.
The April incident occurred just hours after separate charges involving another woman were dismissed on mental health grounds. He was ordered to undergo mental health treatment.
He had been facing charges of stalking and intimidation.
