Jacinda Ardern has dined at Malcolm Turnbull’s Point Piper mansion in Sydney on her second Australian visit since taking office to hold talks that will focus on trade and shared security concerns in the Pacific.
She will meet Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull alone at Kirribilli House this morning while Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters and his group attend a closed-door Australia-New Zealand leadership forum in the city.
Today’s discussion agenda between the two leaders is set down to concentrate on economic opportunities, including how the two countries can promote further integration under the terms of a bilateral “Single Economic Market”.
Marking a century since the end of World War 1 when Australian and New Zealand fought together, Mr Turnbull and Ms Ardern are also expected to discuss how the two nations can work together on “current and emerging security challenges”.
It is expected that relations with Beijing and its economic interests in Pacific nations will be canvassed.
Former prime minister Sir John Key — who was in question time in Canberra yesterday — stayed at Mr Turnbull’s home for a “sleepover” and a fish dinner during an official visit in 2016.
