A low-pressure system is expected to deepen across large swaths of the south coast of NSW leading into the weekend, as the potential for heavier rainfall and flash flooding returns to the Northern Rivers.

With every state in the country expected to be hit by storms over the next 10 days, more than a dozen flood warnings across rain-affected parts of NSW are expected to remain in place, despite the Bureau of Meteorology downgrading its warnings to moderate at the end of last week.

The BOM said the beginning of a “storm event” was likely to move across large parts of coastal Australia by Tuesday evening, noting a third major flooding event across the Northern Rivers had been narrowly averted, with only “isolated and intermittent” storms expected to hit Casino, Tenterfield and Lismore.
