Four teachers were allegedly assaulted while trying to protect a student at a high school in Melbourne’s west.

It is alleged five teenagers attended Tarneit Senior College about 3.50 pm in relation to an ongoing issue with a student, a Victoria Police statement confirmed.

The four teachers tried to protect the student on the schoolyard when they were allegedly assaulted.

Police arrested five people at the scene.

A Victoria Department of Education spokesperson said there was “no place for violence in our schools”.

“We are aware of these incidents and are working closely with the school, students and families as well as co-operating with Victoria Police who are investigating the incidents,” said the spokesperson.

“All schools have strong policies in place to address any incidents of violence or bullying.”

Police said a 19-year-old female was charged with affray and bailed to appear at Werribee Magistrates Court on January 8 next year.

The four other youths, all from Tarneit, are expected to be charged on summons with affray and unlawful assault.
