Former Channel 9 sports presenter Cameron Williams has been arrested and charged with domestic violence offences against his wife.

Williams, 59, is set to face Singleton Local Court on Thursday after officers were called to their rural property at 1am on Sunday.

“Shortly before 1am officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District attended a property on Putty Rd at Howes Valley to reports of a domestic-related incident,” a NSW police spokeswoman said.

“Following inquiries, a 59-year-old man was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with common assault. The Coogee man was granted conditional bail to appear at Singleton Local Court on Thursday.”

An apprehended violence order was reportedly taken out against Williams on behalf of his wife, Natasha Russo.

This comes after Williams announced his resignation from his presenter role in March despite having signed a three-year deal with the company.

Williams confirmed he was ending his 12-year role as sports presenter to “sort a few health issues”.

“I need to sort a few health issues and then back into it,” Williams said in a Twitter post.

James Bracey has since moved to the weeknight sports anchor role, with Emma Lawrence filling in on the weekend bulletins.
