Cruising Yacht Club in Sydney closed as coronavirus infections spread
The home of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race has been closed following a confirmed outbreak among club members.
Sydney’s affluent eastern suburbs have been hit with another cluster of coronavirus infections, as the home of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race closed following a confirmed outbreak among club members.
The cluster at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia in Ruschcutters Bay has been linked with two new cases — revealed to be Vice Commodore Noel Cornish and his partner Meg — that will be reported in Wednesday’s daily COVID-19 tally.
Mr Cornish and his partner visited the Apollo restaurant in Potts Point on July 22, the CYC on subsequent nights and then the Thai Rock restaurant in the same area.
A staff member who worked at the Apollo restaurant had previously tested positive to COVID-19, and NSW Health said it believed the latest cases linked the two outbreaks.
Residents and visitors who attended the Potts Point area in the past two weeks have been directed by NSW Health to remain on high alert and monitor for COVID-19 symptoms over concerns that the cluster might increase.
The Thai Rock Restaurant outbreak in Potts Point grew to three on Tuesday. Fitness First gym in Kings Cross, which is not 200m away from the restaurant, was also shut for cleaning after a confirmed COVID-19 case attended a group workout session.
Six of the state’s 14 new cases reported on Tuesday were linked with a funeral cluster in Sydney’s southwestern suburbs that ballooned after a Fairfield woman in her 40s attended five services between July 16 and 19.
NSW Health said 15 cases were linked to the funeral and church services in Bankstown, Fairfield, Rookwood and Mount Pritchard.
Anyone who attended the same services is considered a “close contact” and they have been told they “must isolate” and “get tested for COVID-19 regardless of any symptoms”.
Of the 101 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health, five are in intensive care.
