Coronavirus: New restrictions for NSW cafes, restaurants, weddings and funerals as cases grow

Weddings restricted to 150 people who will all have to remain seated under changes to events, cafes and restaurants.

NSW extends tough restrictions to all indoor hospitality venues

All hospitality venues in NSW will be limited to group bookings of ten people from next Friday, as the state recorded 13 new cases of coronavirus, including six involving community transmission.

The restriction, which was announced for pubs earlier this week, will now apply to clubs, cafes and restaurants.

“When you have smaller groups there is less chance of people mingling,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

“We don’t want any mingling.”

Weddings and corporate venues will be restricted to 150 people, with the requirement that everyone is seated. Dancing at weddings is not permitted.

Funerals and places of worship will be capped at 100 people. The one person per four square metre rule is still applicable.

The limit of 20 visitors per household and 20 people for public gatherings still remains.

“We’re not going to change this at this stage, but in the next little while we ask people to be thoughtful about who they welcome, how they welcome and especially protect those most vulnerable,” Ms Berejiklian said.

Five of the 13 new cases were reported after the reporting period yesterday.

Ms Berejiklian said there were more than 24,000 tests conducted across the state, with 3000 in the southwestern Sydney region.

NSW Chief Health Office Dr Kerry Chant said eight new cases were diagnosed in the 24-hour period to 8pm last night and a further five cases outside this period.

The new recorded cases include:

– two returned travellers in hotel quarantine

– a woman in her 20s from northern NSW who returned from Victoria

– a woman in her 20s from Hunter New England who is a partner of a confirmed case

– a woman in 20s who worked at Thai Rock at Stockland Wetherill Park Shopping Centre

– A man in his 80s who dined at Crossroads Hotel on July 5

– Two cases, a child and a teenager, linked to the Crossroads Hotel outbreak. Neither of the cases attended the hotel.

Of the five additional cases, three are linked to the Crossroads Hotel outbreak and two are under investigation, meaning their source is unknown.
