Welcome to The Weekend Australian's  coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic and response from Canberra.

NSW Case numbers have continued to decline, with the state recording 667 locally acquired Covid-19 infections and ten deaths. While cases have also dropped in Victoria to 1220 after yesterday’s 1488 local infections – the highest daily case number throughout the entire pandemic.

Queensland will host its first NRL grand final at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium tonight, in front of a 39,000 strong crowd, gathered to watch the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on the Penrith Panthers. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed the news after the state recorded no new local Covid-19 infections.
