Clive Palmer has pneumonia, Covid-19
Multiple sources close to the unvaccinated businessman say he remains very sick.
Clive Palmer has tested positive to Covid and is also being treated for pneumonia.
The billionaire was rushed to hospital on Thursday after becoming increasingly sick over the previous two days.
Mr Palmer’s wife, Anna, has also tested for Covid.
Both are unvaccinated.
Multiple sources close to Mr Palmer said he remains very sick and was also being treated for pneumonia.
They said he has shown some signs of improvement in the past day and was treated at his Gold Coast mansion by doctors after leaving hospital Thursday evening.
A spokesman for Mr Palmer said he could not comment on Mr Palmer’s status.
“Clive’s medical condition is a matter between him and his doctors,’’ he said.
“He is recovering and is thankful of the wishes being sent to him.’’
Mr Palmer, 67, began developing symptoms last Monday night, on the eve of a scheduled speech at the National Press Club in Canberra.
The controversial businessman, who is bankrolling his United Australia Party to run across Australia at the federal election, became so ill on his way to the airport on Tuesday that he had to return to his mansion at Paradise Point, on the Gold Coast.
His appearance at the press club was cancelled.
Mr Palmer is a Queensland Senate candidate and is chairman of the United Australia Party, which he founded.
The UAP has an anti-Covid restriction and anti-vaccine mandate platform.
Mr Palmer has repeatedly questioned the safety and effectiveness of vaccines and has been accused of spreading misinformation.
Just weeks ago, he said he had no plans to get vaccinated.
“Of course I won’t,” he said. “Many of the press have reported that we are an anti-vax party, but we’re not. We’re for vaccines, but vaccines that have been through tried-and-tested systems of approval in Australia.”
