A Queensland man who lost his house to a bushfire last year has found his fortunes reversed after a $1m Lotto win.
The resident of Mount Cotton, southeast of Brisbane, described the timing of his win as “impeccable” following the loss of his family home to blazes in northern NSW last year.
Oblivious to his win until contacted by Golden Casket officials yesterday, he was the only national Division 1 winner from Wednesday’s Gold Lotto draw.
He told officials he would use the win to rebuild his home, saying it was not insured and all that was left after the fire was a “few charred teacups”.
He said the win had come at the “most incredible time”, adding he used his wife’s “special numbers” in his entry. The winner bought his entry online.
