Bondi Westfield killer Joel Cauchi reviewed knife sharpening service and adult venues

A knife-sharpener vividly remembers the day Joel Cauchi sought out his services three years ago to have the blades of his hunting knives honed.

“He gave me these two hunting knives and told me that he uses them every day in the house,” the Queensland business owner, who asked not to be named, told The Australian.

“A pig sticker, and the other was another type of hunting knife, probably about eight inches long.”

A pig sticker is a thin, pointed blade with a double edge, about 25cm long, he said.

The business owner said Cauchi had a “really blank personality”.

“Nothing angry, distorted, nothing like that,” he said. “He wasn’t happy, he didn’t smile. He was just very vague, very blank.

“The customer I was dealing with at the time actually was there as well, and even she said, he’s odd.

“She said, he’s a little bit weird.”

The business owner clarified that Cauchi did not use either of those knives in his rampage in Bondi Junction Westfield on Saturday.

Weeks after he picked up the knives, Cauchi left a scathing review, saying his knives had not been sufficiently sharpened.

“I put in two knives (one of which is pretty expensive) to be sharpened and he blunted them both,” Cauchi wrote in the one-star review.

“I made sure that I clearly, repeatedly and correctly gave all instructions when I put them in and he blunted them, then was very unhelpful afterwards, either being unable or unwilling to fix the job, leaving me with two blunt knives that are basically useless now.

Cauchi’s parents were previously concerned with his knife fixation and took them away from him, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Cauchi also reviewed a number of adult businesses in Brisbane and Sydney.

A year ago, he reviewed the Minx Gentlemen’s Club on Sydney’s Pitt St, a “really fun place”, he wrote.

Joel Cauchi stabbed six people to death on Saturday.

He had previously sought company for surfing lessons at Bondi in the days before the rampage.

“The dancers were extremely sexy, awesome really! Overall a really nice looking pumping place with great music and amazing girls and people!”

Another review from a year ago of Manhattan Club Showgirls in Tweed Heads, on the very northern tip of the NSW coast, reads, “this place was incredible, the girls were amazing and the dancing was awesome!”

He also reviewed the Banksia Brothel in Sydney, just west of the airport, and wrote, “I really loved this place! The girls were incredible and the place itself looked very nice! The staff were awesome, really friendly, and it was a great experience!”

On Facebook, he left a review on The Vault, an adult entertainment venue in Toowoomba, saying it was “a great place, I loved it! The staff and girls were fantastic and it had awesome music and looked incredible!”

The Australian earlier on Sunday revealed Cauchi advertised himself as a male escort.
